Mir Cosmonauts Install Battery on Space Station

MOSCOW — Two Soviet cosmonauts on the Mir space station have installed an extra storage battery to increase the orbiting laboratory’s electric power capacity, the Tass news agency said Friday.
Moscow radio reported Thursday that Mir was facing an electricity shortage, and mission commander Yuri Romanenko and flight engineer Alexander Laveikin would have to make a second a space walk to attach new solar batteries to the space station’s exterior.
