Firefighter Burned on Scene of Arson Blaze at Hesperia
VICTORVILLE — A firefighter was seriously burned Friday in a brush fire that scorched 25 acres in San Bernardino County, a state forestry official said.
Cheri Hill, one of hundreds of temporary firefighters hired during the fire season, was treated for first- and second-degree burns on her arms, shoulders and face at San Bernardino County Medical Center. Her condition was serious, said LoVae Martines, spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry.
Hill, 20, of Grand Terrace, was helping to douse the fire about noon in Hesperia, about 10 miles south of Victorville, when 20-m.p.h. winds pushed the flames over her, Martines said. Officials said they believe the fire was set by an arsonist.
