A Vista man was shot to death early Saturday morning when he and his roommate stopped to confront a group of men who had followed them after an argument in a bowling alley parking lot, San Diego County sheriff’s deputies said.

Robert Scott Brown, 23, was shot while getting out of his roommate’s car in the 300 block of Emerald Drive in Vista about 2:30 a.m., authorities said. He died instantly of a single gunshot wound to the head, according to coroner’s deputies.

Brown and his roommate, Wade Pexa, 22, were in the parking lot of the Vista Entertainment Center when they got into an argument with several men, Pexa told deputies. He said that, when they left the parking lot, they noticed they were being followed by two of the men.

Pexa told authorities he stopped his car on Emerald Drive to confront the men. As he and Brown got out of the car, he said, a shot was fired, and the other car sped away.

No weapons were recovered at the scene, and no suspects have been arrested, authorities said. The Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation.
