SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Job Market : PART TWO: GETTING AHEAD : Job Training : Courses to help your career
Interested in developing a new career or in sharpening your existing job skills? It’s easy to find help.
Continuing education programs abound at Southern California’s colleges, universities and smaller learning centers. The times are convenient, with classes offered throughout the year, in the evening and on weekends.
The amount of commitment required varies: Some programs are short, one-day workshops while others last several weeks, and fees range from nothing to hundreds of dollars.
Offerings include career planning programs, classes on how to start and maintain various kinds of enterprises (for example, direct mail, consulting, catering, travel and home-based businesses), instruction on using equipment such as computers and courses designed to help people keep abreast of developments in their fields.
Many schools also provide customized programs for businesses and bring the instruction to the actual workplace.
