Countywide : Irvine’s Population Jumps 6.7% to 94,100
The city of Irvine grew at a rate of 6.7% last year, making it the ninth fastest growing of California cities with more than 50,000 people, according to new population estimates released Tuesday by the state.
The estimates, prepared by the state Finance Department, showed Irvine growing from 88,200 people on Jan. 1, 1986, to 94,100 a year later. The figures are based on the 1980 census, adjusted according to occupied housing units and average household size.
Overall, Orange County’s population grew by 42,100 during 1986 to 2,193,600. The county is the third largest in the state behind Los Angeles and San Diego.
The report showed Anaheim with a population of 242,200, ninth largest in the state, and Santa Ana, with 227,400, 10th in the state.

Huntington Beach, 186,800; Garden Grove, 134,100; Fullerton, 110,100; Orange, 103,300; Costa Mesa, 89,900; Westminster, 73,300; Newport Beach, 67,300; Buena Park, 65,800; Fountain Valley, 55,600; La Habra, 48,500; Tustin, 43,100; Cypress, 42,850; Yorba Linda, 42,600; Placentia, 39,150; San Clemente, 34,800; Brea, 32,950; Stanton, 28,100; Seal Beach, 27,400; San Juan Capistrano, 23,750; Laguna Beach, 18,800; La Palma, 16,150; Los Alamitos, 12,100, and Villa Park, 6,950.
