ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASEBALL : La Quinta’s Wilson Pitches No-Hitter, Misses a Perfect Game on an Error
Mike Wilson pitched a no-hitter Wednesday as La Quinta High School defeated Santiago, 6-0, in a Garden Grove League baseball game at La Quinta.
Wilson, a junior right-hander, missed a perfect game because of a second-inning error, when a ground ball hit by Willie Hernandez was mishandled by second baseman Tim Park. Hernandez was thrown out stealing as Wilson (11-1) faced the minimum 21 hitters.
Wilson, who had four strikeouts Wednesday, has 53 strikeouts and 10 walks in 61 innings this season.
James Marquez went 2 for 2, scored two runs and had two RBIs for La Quinta (10-0, 18-2), which has won five straight. Guillermo Alcantar was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and Wilson was 1 for 2 with an RBI for La Quinta.
