An 8-year-old boy accidentally hanged himself while playing on rope swing in a backyard tree.
While his mother was gardening, Jarrett Meeker, a third-grader at Murdock Elementary School, was playing about 5:30 p.m. Monday in their yard in the 4100 block of Sherwin Place.
His mother said that she went to answer the phone, and when she returned she found Jarrett hanging from the rope.
The boy was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. at Grossmont Hospital, Deputy San Diego County Coroner Dan Matticks said.
