The Nation : Donovan Defense Rests

Defense lawyers in the larceny and fraud trial in New York of former Labor Secretary Raymond J. Donovan rested their case without calling a witness. The defense took the unusual step after state Supreme Court Justice John P. Collins refused for now to dismiss charges against Donovan and seven co-defendants. Collins dismissed charges against one other man. Donovan and his lawyers said they decided not to present witnesses because they believed the prosecution failed to prove its case.
