The World : 2 Viet Leaders Will Retire
Vietnamese President Truong Chinh, 79, who helped found the Communist state, has indicated that he will retire in June, the official Vietnam News Agency said. The government-run Voice of Vietnam radio said earlier that Premier Pham Van Dong, 80, another “old guard†Communist, also will step down when the new National Assembly meets in June. The two men helped found the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930. Their retirements, which have been widely expected, would leave Deputy Premier Pham Hung as the only party co-founder in Vietnam’s leadership.
