Lloyd Honeyghan of Britain won a unanimous 12-round decision over Maurice Blocker of Washington in London to retain his World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation welterweight titles.
The victory improved Honeyghan’s record to 30-0, but the 26-year-old native of Jamaica had to work hard to hand Blocker his first career loss in 25 fights.
Blocker was cautioned several times by Swiss referee Franz Marti and had a point taken away in the last round for a low blow.
Blocker said: “I feel I won the fight. When I heard them say it was a unanimous decision I was sure. But, thank God, it’s on TV and the American people can see who really won.”
