OVER THE HILL
“Hill Street Blues†may be going off the air (final episode: May 12, 10 p.m., NBC), but most cast members seem to be avoiding the unemployment line. A roll call:
Daniel J. Travanti (Capt. Frank Pizza Man Furillo): Co-starring opposite Faye Dunaway in his first feature, “Night Crossing,†shooting to start this week in Miami. This summer, he’ll be Stockbridge, Mass., in “I Never Sang for My Father,†with Hal Holbrook as Dad.
Veronica Hamel (Public Defender Joyce Davenport): “She doesn’t want to talk about it,†per her ICM office.
Charles Haid (Renko): Plays a convict in an upcoming MOW, “Six Against the Rockâ€; a mysterious suspect sought by James Woods in “Blood On The Moon,†now shooting, and a Disney feature, “Seal Kids,†also now shooting in New Zealand.
Michael Warren (Bobby Hill): No specific acting plans now.
Joe Spano (Henry Goldblume): Taking a vacation. Regarding future employment, his agent “wouldn’t even want to ask him that type of personal question.â€
Bruce Weitz (the snarling Det. Mick Belker): Rehearsing for an NBC half-hour pilot, “Mama’s Boy,†with Nancy Walker.
Betty Thomas (Lucy Bates): Just finished a Warner Bros. pilot for ABC called “Too Many Cooks,†playing one of two sisters who inherit a diner.
Taurean Blacque (toothpicking Det. Neal Washington): Nothing set right now.
Kiel Martin (womanizing Johnnie LaRue): Golfing in Palm Springs, with no acting plans at present.
James Sikking (gung-ho Howard Hunter): Just co-starred in the Katherine Helmond pilot “Mona,†with lots of charity golf tourneys in his future.
Rene Enriquez (passionate Ray Calletano): Rounding up celeb tennis players for his annual fund-raising tournament for Mexican orphans. Also has a lead as an Army general in Cine Tel Films’ “Bullet Proof.†Said a publicist: “He didn’t collect unemployment before ‘Hill Street,’ and he ain’t going to start now.â€
Robert Prosky (Stan Jablonski): Plays a bureau chief in James Brooks’ untitled film set in a TV newsroom (William Hurt stars), now shooting in D.C.
Meg Gallagher (undercover cop Tina Russo): Her rep wouldn’t give us specifics because “Meg is going to be a big television and film star and doesn’t need any publicity. ‘Hill Street’ is already behind her, as far as her career is concerned.â€
Robert Clohessy (rookie Patrick Flaherty): Contemplating next move in NYC.
George Wyner (asst. D.A. Irwin Bernstein): Will co-star in half-hour sitcom for Lorimar, “She’s the Sheriff,†as Sheriff Suzanne Somers’ deputy, possibly to debut in September. Also a space commander in Mel Brooks’ “Spaceballs,†due late June.
Jon Cypher (egotistical Chief Daniels): Will star in Cannon’s upcoming “Masters of the Universe†and still seen in recurring “Dynasty†role.
Dennis Franz (Buntz): Last week began filming “Beverly Hills Buntz,†half-hour comedy-drama spinoff, to use part of the original “Hill Street†set.
Peter Jurasik (Sid the Snitch): Will join Franz in the spinoff.
Some cast members will reunite Saturday for a celeb basketball game vs. the L.A. Raiders to benefit the nonprofit Children’s Community School in Van Nuys.
