Death of F.D.R.
April 12 always is a sad day for me. As a student in 1945, I was deeply shocked and saddened at the untimely death of the only President I had ever known, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His deep voice was silent forever. His international and national role was over.
Most people alive today never knew him in his lifetime. That alone is a shame only 42 years after our loss. I have personally paused each of those 42 years in the afternoon to reflect how I felt when I heard the news from Warm Springs, Ga., “The President is dead.”
May we never forget.
