Developers were offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to vandals who felled almost 600 young trees on a two-mile greenbelt tract near the site of a planned sports complex in Sacramento. “We are totally baffled as to who it is or why they’re doing it,� said Maurice Read, spokesman for the Sacramento Sports Assn. “It’s obviously an organized thing and we think there’s more than one person doing it. It’s sickening.�
