Shirley Muldowney, three-time world drag racing champion, was reported in satisfactory condition after undergoing emergency surgery at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton, Tex., north of Dallas.

Muldowney, 46, was in the Dallas area for a $339,000 drag race at the Texas Motorplex in nearby Ennis, Tex. Hospital officials refused to release the nature of her operation, but a spokesman for the Texas Motorplex said that the surgery was not related to her past racing injuries.
