Reagan Sees ‘a Clear Account’ of Iran-Contra Affair
WASHINGTON — President Reagan, dropping earlier complaints about unanswered questions in the Iran- contra affair, said Monday there now is “a clear account of what took place†and that the government can get on with its business.
Reagan spoke at Constitution Hall to a cheering audience of hundreds of people he has appointed to top-level government jobs. He was flanked by members of his Cabinet at a program, which included the singing of patriotic songs.
Using football imagery, Reagan, with two years remaining in his term, said: “We’re not about to fall on the ball and wait for the clock to run out. Instead, we’re going to have the greatest fourth quarter in presidential history.â€
The President referred to the Iran arms sale episode as “one of the more frustrating times of this or any Administration.â€
