LYNCHBURG, Va. — Rev. Jerry Falwell’s ministry is considering returning $79,000 in donations from an elderly North Carolina woman whose daughter is suing the television evangelist, a spokesman said today.
Mark DeMoss said the Moral Majority leader’s ministry is giving serious consideration to returning the money to Johnnie Eureka Jackson, 82, a resident of an Alamance County, N.C., retirement home. Jackson’s daughter, Sarah Anthony, filed suit last week to reclaim the money, saying her mother has Alzheimer’s disease and did not understand what she was doing.
