AMBERG, West Germany — A U.S. Army armored combat vehicle skidded on an ice-covered highway and crashed into a tourist bus, injuring 29 people on the bus and one soldier, officials said Wednesday.
Police said the collision took place Tuesday night on a highway between the towns of Edelsfeld and Sulzback-Rosenberg, about 12 miles north of Amberg in Bavaria state.
The crash tore open the front of the bus, which was carrying 33 West German tourists heading for East Germany, a police officer said.
Six of those aboard the bus, including the driver, were hospitalized in serious condition, police said.
