Don May Jr., a 6-foot 9-inch center from Stagg High School in the Chicago suburb of Palos Hills, has made a verbal commitment to attend UC Irvine on a basketball scholarship next fall.
May visited Irvine last Thursday and Friday and said he decided Monday night.
An honor student and member of his school’s science club, May said he was impressed with UCI’s commitment to growth.
“I just totally loved the campus,” May said. “Everyone I talked to there told me that they want the school to keep growing . . . to keep getting better and better.
“Plus, I was impressed with the fact that they have a Frisbee golf course.”
May canceled a trip to Princeton after deciding on Irvine. He had also considering attending Cornell, Brown and Davidson.
