The Southside Slayer Task Force was called to investigate the death of a woman whose body was found in a South Los Angeles alley a day after another woman’s body was found in an alley about three miles away, but Police Sgt. Frank McManus said the two women’s deaths are not being investigated as related homicides. Detectives from the task force investigating a series of murders of 17 women in the area were called out only for the second discovery, he said. A coroner’s spokeswoman identified the first victim, whose remains were found in an alley between 80th and 81st streets north of Towne Avenue, as Ruby Clay, 26, of Los Angeles. The second victim, found in an alley behind 112 W. 112th St., was not identified. Autopsies were ordered to determine the cause of death in both cases.
