A Victorville man shot to death his girlfriend and their 5-month-old daughter and then fatally wounded himself, authorities said. Jeffery Scott Higgins, 21, was alive when San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Russ Lons arrived at the residence but died later at Victor Valley Hospital of a gunshot wound to the head, Deputy David Smedley said. Coroner’s officials identified the victims as Joyce Ann Battles, 22, and her daughter, Katherine. They said Higgins was the child’s father. “This is being classified as a double-murder-suicide,†Smedley said.
