Fullerton : Envoy Urges Bigger U.S. Role to End Apartheid
Neo Mnumzana, a representative of the African National Congress, told a Cal State Fullerton audience Tuesday that the American people should press the U.S. government to take a more active role in ending South Africa’s apartheid policies.
As an international power, the United States could “intervene in the right way, and the only way the government is going to help is with the push of the American people,†said Mnumzana, a South African native and the African National Congress’ chief representative to this country and the United Nations.
Mnumzana, who last month accompanied African National Congress President Oliver Tambo to talks with U.S. Secretary of State George P. Shultz, spoke at an all-day symposium organized by a students’ anti-apartheid group at Cal State Fullerton.
