Unraveling of Iran-Contra-White House Tangle
In fairness to President Reagan, I accepted his challenge. I asked myself where I was on Aug. 8, 1985.
Sure enough, I couldn’t remember. So I turned to my diary. Funny thing, the Aug. 8 page had been ripped out.
I decided to check the appointment calendars, which we save. 1985 was missing. My wife said it had been destroyed in a routine shredding operation.
I asked close associates to help recall what happened on that date. They all took the 5th.
The President is right. It can be difficult to remember.
