Former Screen Actors Guild president Ed Asner gave a pep talk to striking meatpackers in Cudahy, Wis., during a benefit for the strikers Sunday night. Asner said the current American economic problems “are not due to the unions.” Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local P-40 have been on strike against the meatpacking company Patrick Cudahy Inc. since Jan. 4. Asner was in Wisconsin to appear with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra as part of its “Poetry in Motion” Casual Classics concert.
