Santa Ana : Passenger Killed, Driver Hurt as Car Hits Wall
A Santa Ana man was killed when the car in which he was riding crashed into a block wall early Sunday, authorities said.
Eddie Maciel, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in the 3300 block of West McFadden Avenue, Santa Ana police said.
According to Lt. Mike Mitchell, the crash occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. when the driver of a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette veered off the road while traveling westbound on McFadden and crashed into a six-foot cinder-block wall, Mitchell said.
Paramedics treated the driver, identified as Gilbert Nieto, 42, also of Santa Ana, at the scene before he was airlifted to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, Mitchell said. A hospital official said Nieto was in fair condition Sunday evening.
Police said an investigation was continuing into the cause of the accident.
