Some Tobacco Growers Found Misusing Pesticides

WASHINGTON — Analysis of tobacco offered for sale last year showed that some growers misused pesticides, disqualifying them for price supports, an Agriculture Department official announced Friday.
Milton Hertz, administrator of the department’s Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, said 5% of analyzed samples of flue-cured tobacco, a major ingredient in cigarettes, contained residues of a misused weed killer.
