Garden Grove League : Los Amigos Upsets Bolsa Grande

Gene Altamirano scored 30 points and Walter Skipps had 19 as Los Amigos High School upset Garden Grove League champion Bolsa Grande, 79-66, to clinch the league’s third and final Southern Section 3-A playoff berth Thursday night at Bolsa Grande.
Bolsa Grande (9-1, 15-6) built an 8-2 lead, but the Lobos (6-4) outscored the Matadors, 20-0, to take a 22-8 first-quarter lead.
Bolsa Grande’s Joe Small led all scorers with 35 points and guard Nam Cao added 10.
Garden Grove 87, Santiago 55--Octavio Contreras scored 28 points and Henry Fournier added 17 as Garden Grove defeated Santiago. Garden Grove finished 3-7 in league play and Santiago finished 0-10.
Rancho Alamitos 66, La Quinta 44--Rancho Alamitos, needing a victory to have a chance at a playoff spot, used a press in the last four minutes of the first half to take control. Randy Morales scored 18 points to lead Rancho Alamitos, which outscored La Quinta, 17-6, in the second quarter. La Quinta (7-3, 13-10) advances to the playoffs as the league’s second-place team. Rancho (5-5 in league) was eliminated from the playoffs because of the Los Amigos victory.
