Irvine Faces Santa Barbara Tonight
Trying to end a three-game losing streak, UC Irvine will play host tonight to a UC Santa Barbara basketball team that handed the Anteaters one of their most embarrassing losses of the season.
Santa Barbara beat Irvine Jan. 17 at Goleta, 93-75. But the final score was not the true embarrassment. A seven-minute stretch in the second half was--a stretch in which Irvine was outscored, 20-0. The Anteaters wound up shooting 38% for the game while committing 19 turnovers.
Irvine may have to begin the 7:30 p.m. rematch at the Bren Center without leading scorer Scott Brooks in the lineup. Brooks, averaging 23.2 points a game, aggravated a sprained left ankle and could not practice Wednesday. He is listed as questionable for tonight’s game.
The Anteaters are 11-11 overall and 6-7 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. Santa Barbara, (10-10 and 5-6) has lost four of its last six.
