His Irish Passport Similar to Stolen Ones

ATHENS — Western diplomats today said an Irish passport that former White House adviser Robert C. McFarlane allegedly used to enter Iran last year is similar to blank passports stolen in Dublin three years ago.
The diplomats said some of the stolen passports later were found in the possession of people linked with the outlawed Irish Republican Army but the bulk were believed to have fallen into the hands of the CIA.
The diplomats, who asked not be identified, commented on the possible links between the IRA and the CIA after examining a photostat copy of an Irish passport bearing McFarlane’s picture and the name Sean Devlin.
The photostat was made available to reporters during a Tehran news conference two weeks ago by Iranian Parliament Speaker Hashemi Rafsanjani, who said McFarlane illegally used the passport to enter Iran.
