NMS Pharmaceuticals’ Unit Files for Patent

Newport Beach-based NMS Pharmaceuticals Inc. said that its wholly owned Synorex Inc. subsidiary has filed its third patent application for a compound that would enhance the penetration of drugs through the skin and mucous membranes.
Several pharmaceutical firms, including Alza Corp. of Palo Alto and Nelson Research & Development Co. of Irvine, have developed similar compounds, which enable drugs to reach the bloodstream faster than when taken orally.
