Attorneys for the Raiders are trying to get the City of Oakland to pay for everything from bar tabs to laundry bills in efforts to collect on their successful court battle, according to a lawyer for Oakland.
Because the Raiders won the eminent domain suit brought against them by Oakland, the city must pay the team’s attorney fees and expenses. According to Moses Lasky, one of the Raiders’ attorneys, Raider owner Al Davis ran up a legal bill of $5 million during his six-year fight to move his franchise from Oakland. The attorneys also spent about $250,000 on hotels, meals and incidental costs while they stayed in Monterey County for court proceedings, Lasky said.
Oakland has challenged the $5-million figure. Laurence Horan, a Monterey attorney representing the city, said that much of the Raiders’ claim was not reasonable. He said it includes $5,826 for Davis’ son, including $700 for bar bills, movie rentals, laundry and golf; and $16,743 for the family of attorney Joseph Alioto.
