DES MOINES — A food loaf given to unruly Iowa prison inmates passed a taste test at the Iowa Board of Corrections--but it wasn’t the kind of compliment you could take to the bank.
About the highest compliment at the meeting last week came from Corrections Director Hal Farrier, who said the loaf did not taste as bad as he thought it would.
Iowa prisons began serving the food loaf in December to prisoners who protested poor food by throwing it and human waste at guards.
Officials say the loaf was effective in stopping the misbehavior.
