Bojarski Leads San Gabriel by Hart

Andrew (The Boj) Bojarski is soft-spoken, doesn’t tint his hair in rainbow colors and, in fact, has little in common with Oklahoma linebacker Brian (The Boz) Bosworth.

But Bojarski can take over a basketball court in the same manner Bosworth can dominate the line of scrimmage.

Bojarski did just that Thursday night, scoring 24 points and grabbing nine rebounds to lead San Gabriel High to a 72-54 Foothill League victory over Hart at San Gabriel.

It was the Matadors’ first victory over Hart in five years, a stretch that saw them lose nine straight to the Indians.

“They broke the spell,” Hart Coach Doug Michelson said. “I’m sure they came in here with a commitment to beat us, and they sure did in just about every way. They played inspired.”

Especially Bojarski. Virtually every time the 6-5 center got the ball, he scored a basket or went to the foul line--mostly the latter.

The Indians limited him to nine shots, and he made four. But they sent him to the line for 22 free throws, and he converted 16.

“We have some people who can play defense against him, but they didn’t,” Michelson said. Hart (10-9, 4-2) made a game of it for three periods, but fell apart in the fourth quarter. The Indians trailed, 35-31, at halftime, and were still in the game after three quarters, trailing, 52-43.

But they were forced to foul in the final period, and San Gabriel (15-5, 3-3) converted 16 of 22 free throws in the quarter to pull away.
