Ugandan troops killed 350 northern rebels in the fiercest battle since the rebels began attacking government forces last August, army commanders said. More than 6,000 soldiers took part in the six-hour battle at Kilak Corner, a road junction 170 miles north of Kampala, they said. The officers reported that government troops lost 38 men killed and 116 wounded. The rebel dead included Lt. Col. Eric Odwar, a former Ugandan army commander and one of the rebels’ most experienced officers.
