One of five high school wrestlers who were labeled “quitters” in a high school yearbook photo caption has been paid $4,500 to settle a libel case.
Frank Gagliardi, now a senior at Moon Valley High School in Phoenix, received the money from the Industrial Indemnity Co., insurance carrier for the Glendale Union High School District.
Gagliardi was the only student to file a claim regarding the photograph of the junior varsity wrestling team that appeared in the 1985-86 yearbook. He said he was “shocked and humiliated” when the yearbook came out, and filed suit for $10,000.
