UCI Upsets No. 13 Minnesota in Tennis
UC Irvine’s men’s tennis team, ranked 22nd nationally, upset No. 13 Minnesota, 6-3, Sunday afternoon at the Minnesota Challenge Tournament in Minneapolis.
It was the second consecutive upset for the Anteaters (2-0), who defeated No. 18 Kentucky Saturday, 5-4.
UC Irvine’s No. 1 doubles team of Darren Yates and Julian Barham defeated Jonas Suensson and Chuck Merzbacher, 6-3, 7-6, to improve its record to 11-0.
The UCI No. 2 doubles team of Mark Kaplan and Trevor Kronemann defeated Duke Uihlein and Mathias Olsson, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, to improve its record to 7-1.
Kaplan, the No. 1 singles player for the Anteaters, defeated Suensson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, to improve his record to 10-2.
