Dow Surges Above 2,100 Mark
NEW YORK — The stock market soared to a record-tying 12th straight gain today and closed above 2,100 points for the first time, led by a strong surge in technology shares.
The Dow Jones industrial average, up 25.87 points to 2,102.50, continued the uninterrupted string of New Year gains and matched a record of 12 consecutive gains set from Nov. 19 to Dec. 1, 1970.
New York Stock Exchange volume was about 162.83 million shares compared with 218.39 million shares Friday.
