CSUN Women Fall Flat at Pomona

The glimmer of hope the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team thought it saw during a close loss to Cal Poly Pomona two months ago turned out to be the headlight of an oncoming train.
Top-ranked Pomona flattened Northridge, 82-55, Saturday for its 14th straight win. The Broncos are 3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. and 16-1 overall.
Pomona has won 27 consecutive conference games and 42 straight against Division II competition. Pomona’s only loss this season was to Pepperdine, 62-59, in November.
The Broncos certainly appeared worthy of their ranking against Northridge this time after struggling a little in a 66-52 tournament win over the Lady Matadors two months ago.
Center Niki Bracken and guards Cathy Gooden and Michelle McCoy combined for 56 points--by themselves outscoring Northridge.
Bracken, a 6-2 freshman, had 20 points on 9-for-12 shooting. Gooden came off the bench to score 13, while McCoy had a game-high 23 points and 10 assists.
Denise Sitton led Northridge with 16 points, but she also had seven of the team’s 26 turnovers.
