Members of a United Auto Workers local, ignoring the recommendation of its national union, voted not to reopen contract negotiations with American Motors Corp. in which the auto maker is seeking concessions to expand its Kenosha, Wis., plant. The voice vote was unanimous, said UAW Local 72 President Rudy Kuzel, who urged rejection because of contract changes that included wage and benefit cuts and reduction of job classifications. International union officials had urged the local to approve the agreement, which would bring 6,500 new jobs to the Kenosha plant for the production of a new Jeep line and Chrysler Omni and Horizon models.
