ORANGE COUNTY
Anaheim contractor Al R. Shankle has been elected to a one-year term as president of the Associated General Contractors of California, a statewide organization of 2,150 construction-related firms that, among other services, represents builders in labor negotiations with industry unions.
Shankle, 46, president of the Al Shankle Construction Co., will head the AGC’s 60-member board of directors. In terms of dollar volume, the AGC members are responsible for 70% of non-residential construction in the state with a membership average of $3.5 million in annual dealings.
A resident of Laguna Beach, Shankle started his own commercial construction business--now doing $30 million worth of annual volume construction--more than six years ago after being president of the Donald F. Shaw Construction Co. in Los Angeles since 1977. Shankle started off as a carpenter with the construction company before being promoted to its corporate ranks.
