Swiss Favor ‘Car-Free’ Days to Save Forests

ZURICH, Switzerland — Six out of 10 Swiss, worried about the poor state of the country’s forests, believe the government should organize “car-free Sundays,†and a sizeable minority want gasoline rationing, a survey published Sunday said.
The survey, in the Sonntagzeitung newspaper, provides further confirmation of public concern about the environment, heightened by a controversial recent study showing at least half of Swiss trees to be suffering from the effects of pollution.
