USC Salary
I am proud of the undergraduate and two graduate degrees that I earned at the University of Southern California. They not only helped me in a career but also helped my intellectual and spiritual growth. I am not proud, however, that USC is paying $250,000 annually for a head football coach.
Such a salary degrades the status of the professors who truly provide the education that will stay with students for years after they have forgotten what games the university won or lost. These funds could be used better to upgrade teacher salaries and to provide more scholarships for students who are long on academic promise but short on money.
I fail to see that a “winning†team attracts students in the era during which we live. Good educational programs and academics do.
