ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Girls’ Roundup : Chalmers Scores Career-High 30 to Lead Laguna Beach Win, 65-39

Felicia Chalmers, a senior guard playing in only her second season of high school basketball, scored a career-high 30 points on 14-of-24 shooting as Laguna Beach High School defeated Corona del Mar, 65-39, in a nonleague girls’ basketball game at Laguna Beach. Shannon Maurice added 11 for the Artists.

In other nonleague games:

Canyon 52, Orange 40--The Comanches rallied from a 21-15 halftime deficit to gain a two-point lead in the third quarter. Canyon, led by Carrie Erkenbrack and Darla O’Brien, outscored Orange, 23-7, in the fourth quarter. Lisa Iino led Canyon with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Suzette Sargeant, a 6-3 center, led the Panthers with 29 points at Canyon.

Buena Park 47, Bolsa Grande 36--Kelly Hillard had 19 points and Felicia Benjamins had 16 for Buena Park (6-4) at Bolsa Grande.

St. Margaret’s 21, Newport Christian 14--Becky Berkebile led Newport Christian (0-4) with six points at Newport Christian.

Foothill 51, Huntington Beach 29--Sue Davis led the Knights (10-3) with 12 points. Tami Chick scored 12 for Huntington Beach.

Tustin 57, Villa Park 49--Renee Andres had 20 points for the Tillers (11-4) at Villa Park. Suzie Barnett had 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Spartans (2-7).

Brea-Olinda 76, Lakewood 44--Carrie Egan scored 26 points and Susan Tousey had 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (9-3) at Brea-Olinda.

Magnolia 60, Troy 39--Dawne Borum, a junior forward, had 23 points to lead the Centinnels (11-2) at Troy. Katie Donica had 18 points and Rena Rossoll had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Magnolia.

Valencia 83, Westminster 46--Steffi Strauss scored 19 points and Ronette McWeeney added 18 to lead Valencia at Westminster. Devon Akita and Janet Davis had 11 points each for the Lions (8-5).

Edison 50, Mater Dei 46--Stacee Johnson had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Chargers (14-1). Edison was also helped by Kristi Smith’s 14 points and 12 rebounds. Geri Gainey had 18 points for the Monarchs (10-5) at Mater Dei.

Calvary Baptist 30, Harbor Christian 18--Cherilyn Booze led Calvary Baptist (4-3) with 14 points at Calvary Baptist.

Irvine 48, University 34--Cindy Edwards had 17 points to lead the Vaqueros (7-5) at Irvine.

Marina 50, Long Beach Wilson 36--Dawn Charroin scored 20 points and Liberty Brewster added eight as the Vikings (9-6) won at Wilson.

Costa Mesa 45, Estancia 36--Stephanie Swanson scored 15 points, leading the Mustangs (10-5) at Estancia. Robin Greiner led the Eagles (6-6) with 10.

El Toro 67, Fullerton 57--The Chargers outscored the Indians, 18-10, in the first quarter as El Toro won at Fullerton. Elaine Youngs led the Chargers with 21 points and Andrea Young added 13. Vicky Silva scored 21 and Heidi Shikuma added 16 for the Indians (6-6).

Santa Ana Valley 62, Saddleback 36--Susan Hatchett scored 22 points and freshman forward Francesca Rumps had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Santa Ana Valley (6-2). Monica Walton had 28 for Saddleback.

In an Olympic League game:

Brethren 56, Orange Lutheran 43--Carolyn Reese scored 24 and Michelle Mitchell added 12 for Brethren (2-5, 1-0). Michelle Boltz led Orange Lutheran (5-3, 0-1) with 14.

In an Empire League game:

Kennedy 48, Cypress 39--Ursula Lovely had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Fighting Irish (5-4) at Kennedy.
