Amy Carter Wants Trial on Anti-CIA Protest Charges
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Former President Jimmy Carter’s daughter Amy and activist Abbie Hoffman today requested jury trials on charges stemming from their arrests in November at an anti-CIA protest.
Hoffman, 50, and Carter, 19, each asked that their cases be heard by a six-person jury in Northampton District Court. Judge Ann M. Gibbons continued their cases to Jan. 22 for further pretrial conferences. Hoffman and Carter were among 60 people arrested Nov. 24 while they protested CIA recruitment on campus. They pleaded innocent to disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice charges the following day.
