Women’s Basketball : UCI Loses to Fresno State, 64-61

UC Irvine lost to Fresno State, 64-61, Monday night in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball game in Irvine’s Crawford Hall.
After trailing at halftime, 30-26, the Anteaters came back in the second half as Cheryl Eiland scored 13 second-half points.
UCI (1-1, 5-6) took a 50-49 lead with 9:25 remaining. But that was the Anteaters’ only lead, as the Bulldogs (2-0, 7-1) outscored them, 15-11, to hold on for the victory.
Eiland led UCI with 17 points. Forward Zalina Walton added 16 points for the Anteaters, including 10 in the second half.
Chapman 71, Idaho 70--Susan Bergdahl’s layup with 23 seconds remaining gave the Panthers (7-6) a home victory. Chapman’s Valerie Hartsfield led all scorers with 24 points.
Southern California 82, Evangel College 78--Lisa Terry scored 24 points and Connie Brazell added 20 to lead SCC (5-7) at Costa Mesa. SCC center Delores Effinger scored 19 points and had a school-record 18 rebounds.
