An Example by Reading

Susan Perry’s article on how to encourage your child to read more (“Here’s How . . . ,” Dec. 11) contained many excellent ideas. The column neglected, however, to mention one extremely important fact: Children will “get the message” to read if they see their parents reading. If mom and dad rely on books and other written materials for entertainment, rather than gluing themselves to the television set, then children will also tend to read for pleasure.
