Local News in Brief : Motorcycle Passenger, 18, Dies in Collision
A motorcycle collided with a car in Canoga Park late Thursday night, critically injuring the 15-year-old operator and killing an 18-year-old passenger, both of Canoga Park.
The name of the dead man was not released because his family had not been notified Friday, police said.
The motorcyclist was in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, a spokeswoman said. Police said they will seek manslaughter charges against the operator, who was unlicensed, in the death of the passenger. The operator’s name was not released because he is a juvenile.
The accident occurred about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Platt Avenue. Police said witnesses told officers that the motorcycle did not have its headlight on when it turned onto Platt Avenue from a convenience-store parking lot.
Police said the car struck the cycle’s side, knocking off the passenger and operator. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries, police said.
