Three people were killed and 13 wounded in Beirut as battling continued between Shia Muslim militiamen and Palestinian guerrillas, who ignored a New Year’s call for a cease-fire. Police said the fighting centered on two Palestinian refugee camps in southern Beirut. More than 500 people have been reported killed and hundreds wounded in the last three months in clashes in and around the refugee camps in Beirut and another Palestinian camp in southern Lebanon. Nabih Berri, leader of the Shia Amal militia, had called Monday for a cease-fire.
