North Carolina State tries to complete the biggest turnaround in its history when it faces Virginia Tech at Atlanta today (Channel 11, 10 a.m.) before a sellout crowd of 58,250 in the Peach Bowl.

Coming off three consecutive 3-8 seasons, this Wolfpack is 8-2-1 under first-year Coach Dick Sheridan. In 1972, N.C. State finished 8-3-1 after a 3-8 season the previous year.

Virginia Tech, also 8-2-1, will be playing its last game for Coach Bill Dooley, who is leaving after a dispute with the school.

Erik Kramer, the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year who passed for 2,092 yards and 14 touchdowns, leads the Wolfpack offense.

Virginia Tech’s offense is sparked by Erik Chapman, who threw for 1,627 yards and 10 touchdowns.

At Birmingham, Ala., Florida State is a two-touchdown favorite against Indiana in the All-American Bowl (Channel 11, 5 p.m.).

Florida State (6-4-1) has used three quarterbacks this season but will go with Danny McManus, who missed the first three games with injuries but passed for 872 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Indiana (6-5) will go with Dave Kramme, who started only three games during the year but led the team in passing, completing 87 of 155 for 1,116 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The bowl appearance is Indiana’s first since 1979. It is the eighth in the last nine years for Florida State.

Baylor, riding a four-game winning streak, will meet Colorado, which won six of its last seven games, at Houston in the 28th Bluebonnet Bowl (Channel 5, noon).

Baylor (8-3) is fifth in the nation in total offense, and Colorado (6-5) is 10th in the nation in total defense.
