Italian Minister’s Hotel Bombed
Associated Press
MERANO, Italy — A pipe bomb exploded early today outside a resort hotel where Foreign Minister Giulio Andreotti was staying in the South Tyrol, blowing out windows but injuring no one.
Although Italian officials said separatists were likely behind the bombing, a caller claimed responsibility on behalf of a Lebanese terrorist group. Police said panic broke out on the first floor when the bomb went off at about 1:20 a.m. outside the Palace Hotel, where Andreotti has been a regular guest for about 20 years.
