Stabbing Called Justifiable Homicide

CORONA — Saying that he acted in self-defense, the Riverside County district attorney’s office decided not to file charges against Ruben Ruvalcaba in connection with the stabbing death of a Corona man earlier this month.
Ruvalcaba, 19, of Home Gardens was involved in a Dec. 5 fight that apparently began over a traffic dispute in a Corona alley, said Lt. Fred Biggs, commander of detectives for the Corona Police Department. That fight ended with the stabbing of Filiberto Rojas, also 19, of Corona.
“At that point he (Ruvalcaba) was being attacked by a guy with a chain,” Biggs said. “His reaction was to defend himself with a knife. . . . As far as (the district attorney’s office) could determine, it was a justifiable homicide. There will be no charges.”
Rojas died in a Corona hospital a few hours after the stabbing.
